Google Pixel Care Plus Cuts Screen Repair Costs to $0

Key Points

  • Screen and battery repairs are now free under the new plan
  • Accidental damage service fees reduced across Pixel models
  • Optional loss and theft coverage available at extra cost
  • Pixel Care Plus replaces the old Preferred Care plan

Google just launched a major upgrade to its device protection strategy, rolling out Pixel Care Plus to replace its older Preferred Care program. And it’s great news for Pixel users: screen and battery repairs are now free, accidental damage fees are cheaper, and a new loss and theft option adds more flexibility.

Despite the major benefits, the pricing remains mostly the same. For a Pixel 9, the Pixel Care Plus plan costs $8/month or $159 for two years. For the high-end Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the plan jumps to $339 for two years or $18/month.

If you want to include loss and theft protection, you’ll need to pay $1–$2 extra each month, depending on your model.

The most attention-grabbing change is that front screen repairs and battery replacements are now completely free under Pixel Care Plus.

Previously, screen replacements would cost users around $29, even with coverage. Now, if your battery dips below 80% capacity or your screen cracks, it’s covered with zero extra cost.

However, there’s a major limitation: Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s internal screen is not covered under this new plan. That’s a letdown for those using Google’s foldable flagship, especially considering the high cost of internal display repairs.

Lower service fees make repairs easier

Pixel Care Plus is also cutting down the cost of fixing accidental damage across the entire Pixel lineup. Depending on the model, here’s how the new service fees stack up:

  • Pixel 8a and 9a: $49

  • Pixel 10 Pro Fold: $99

  • Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel Fold models: Up to $129

While not all repairs are free, these service fees are notably cheaper than before, making it easier for users to fix their phones without spending a fortune.

That said, not every model benefits equally. Older Pixel models and the more budget-friendly versions get better fee reductions, while flagship devices still come with slightly higher charges.

But overall, Pixel Care Plus seems designed to ease the stress and cost of phone repairs, especially for those prone to drops or accidents.

Loss and theft coverage is now available

Another big improvement in Pixel Care Plus is the addition of loss and theft protection, something that wasn’t part of Google’s previous Preferred Care program. This new feature gives Pixel users the option to safeguard their devices beyond accidental damage.

It’s an optional add-on that costs just $1–$2 extra per month, depending on your device. If your phone is lost or stolen, you’ll only need to pay a deductible of up to $149 to get a replacement.

While it’s not the cheapest in the market, it still adds a valuable layer of protection, especially for users on the move or those with expensive models like the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

By offering this kind of optional coverage, Google is making Pixel Care Plus more competitive with protection plans from other big players like AppleCare+ and Samsung Care+.

It signals a clear shift in Google’s approach: the company wants to match or exceed industry standards in device care and support.

Aligning with industry leaders in device protection

With Pixel Care Plus, Google is finally taking a big step toward catching up with its rivals. Back in January 2025, Samsung updated its extended coverage plans, removing screen replacement fees entirely. Now, Google is doing the same, at least for the outer screen,  and offering even more benefits.

In the past, Google’s device care options felt basic compared to AppleCare+ or Samsung Care+. Now, Pixel Care Plus not only makes repairs cheaper and easier, but it also adds peace of mind with loss and theft coverage, something many users have long asked for.

Still, the plan isn’t perfect. The lack of internal screen protection for foldable models like the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is a gap that Google should fix. Foldables are expensive and fragile, and leaving out such a major component feels like a step back.

That said, Pixel Care Plus is a strong upgrade. It offers better value, improved repair coverage, and broader protection, all while keeping monthly costs manageable.

Whether you own a Pixel 8a or the latest foldable, Google now offers a care plan that better matches the way people use and protect their devices.
